In 1984 the University of South Florida sponsored the first International Symposium on the Biomedical Sciences; the topic was “Viruses, Immunity and Immunodeficiency.” The topic the next year was “Clinical Virology,” and the need for a meeting on this topic was sufficiently great that 1986 saw the Second Annual Clinical Virology Symposium, co-sponsored by the Pan American Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis (PAGRVD). The meetings continue to this day, now sponsored by ASM.
The Center for the History of Microbiology now has a nearly complete set of programs and abstracts from this important annual meeting. Copies of the Symposium and Workshop programs are available online and full documentation (abstracts, workshop materials, etc.) is available through the Archivist (archives@asmusa.org)
