Information

  • You can submit files < 2 gigabytes via the submission form.
  • Files > 2 gigabytes in size can be zipped and submitted via the form, or you can e-mail scholarworks-group@umbc.edu, and library staff will upload your large files for you.
  • For a full list of materials appropriate for the repository, see What can be submitted to ScholarWorks?.
  • ScholarWorks@UMBC allows you to link to files that are available for free on the web, or to post the files themselves. See Submit Links, Files, or Both?
  • In order to maximize accessibility and ensure long term preservation, you should use non-proprietary file formats. For a list of non-proprietary formats appropriate for various file types, see Non-Proprietary File Formats.
  • Depending on the nature or volume of your materials, the Library may recommend that you find another place to store your material, and only provide a link to it in the repository, or decline your submission entirely.

Your Account and Submission Privileges

  • Set up your ScholarWorks@UMBC account
  • You should receive an email verifying your submission privileges within 1-2 days
    • If you do not receive the verification message, send an email to scholarworks-group@umbc.edu and provide your ScholarWorks@UMBC username and a list of the collections to which you want to submit materials.

Submission Steps

  1. Go to ScholarWorks@UMBC: https://mdsoar.org/handle/11603/14.
  2. Click Login in the upper right corner and log in to your account.
  3. On upper far left side click the plus symbol and select "new" and "item." 
  4. Select a Collection in the dropdown menu and wait a  second for the form to appear.
  5. At the very top of the from, if uploading a file(s), click the blue "browse" to find and add the file(s), or drag and drop the files into the dashed rectangular box.
  6. Fill in as much information as possible. Be sure to fill in the Title and Type fields, as they are required. Fields that may have multiple entries, such as authors, have an "Add More" link that adds additional boxes for additional values. 
  7. When you filled in all of the information, go the the licenses sections at the bottom of the form. If you want to put your work on a Creative Commons license, choose CCO or Creative Commons from the drop down. If you choose Creative Commons, make selections to indicate how you'll allow your work to be re-used. Make sure you understand Creative Commons licenses— they are irrevocable!   8. At the very bottom of the from, click the check box next to "I confirm the above license.
  9. Click "Deposit."
