History of UMBC

These best practices were originally developed by the University History and Research Working Group at the University of Maryland, College Park.

If the University Archives does not have records for the department that you are researching, it can be helpful to reach out to the department directly. Some departments prefer to maintain they're historical records on-site.

The UMBC Publications can be very helpful when researching the history of a department, and this is especially true if you are researching an academic department.

The University Senates records (1966-2006) contain the papers of UMBC’s representative governing bodies, including the University Assembly, University Senate, Faculty Senate, Student Government Association (SGA), Undergraduate Council, Professional Associate Staff Senate (PASS), and Classified Staff Senate (CSS). The bulk of papers include meeting minutes, reports, information regarding proposals and policy changes, agendas, motions, election records, and budgets.
