Subject guide for Typography III Assignment

Special Collections

In the UMBC Special Collections there will be a cart of materials selected for this class. These books will be important for your research so don't miss them! In addition to the books, there are several periodicals that will be of interest:

Avant Garde

Colophon

The Dolphin

Fine Print

Penrose Annual

We also have a microfiche collection of Early English Books (1475-1700) that could be useful for those with the 1450-1830 time period constraint.

No collection number. Shelved in the pond-side (West) wing past the Honors College. Individual titles are in the catalog. To browse search the UMBC catalog by Keyword + format = microform + series = Early English Books

In addition to the the wide array of items you will find in UMBC's Special Collections, you may want to plan a trip to the Hornbake Library on the College Park campus.

They have a wonderful collection of materials that relate to the history of the book and printing. Their History of the Book page highlights just some of the materials available.

UMBC students may use their Student ID to check out books from any of the libraries in the UMD system.

UMBC is also a part of the Baltimore Area Library Consortium (BALC), you may use your UMBC ID to check out books from the following libraries. *HINT* You may have to tell the circulation staff at the participating libraries that you are from a BALC institution.
