According to the MLA's guidelines page on citing GenAI, AI tools cannot be credited as an author. What you need to provide are:
- Prompt used to generate text
- Name of AI tool
- Version of AI tool used
- Publisher (Name of Company/Creator of AI tool)
- Date content was generated
- Location (URL)
Avoid using, labeling, and/or submitting generated text as your own original work. You must paraphrase the tool's response, unless otherwise stated by your instructor. Here is an example from the MLA's guidelines page of a prompt and response from ChatGPT:
