  • Why did the library change its search tools? 
    • All the USMAI libraries updated their systems in May 2024. The migration to Primo represents a major upgrade, providing a more modern and integrated discovery system that enhances collaboration across the University System of Maryland and beyond.
  • Will the Library provide tutorials or instructional materials about the new search tool? 
    • Yes, we offer a range of tutorials, FAQs, and workshops. Check out the "Learn more" tab of this resource guide for our three video tutorials. Visit this myUMBC post for the full list of OneSearch workshops.
  • How do I report an issue with the new OneSearch?
  • Will I still be able to borrow materials from other University System of Maryland libraries? 
    • Yes! OneSearch integrates borrowing across USMAI libraries, giving you easy access to a wide range of materials. 
  • How do I renew items borrowed from other libraries via USM or ILL?
    • You can renew materials directly through your OneSearch account.
  • How do I access my library account? 
    • Log in using your UMBC credentials via the OneSearch interface to manage loans, requests, and more. You can also go directly to this webpage, select Library Account, and log in with your UMBC username and password. 
  • Do I need to log in to use OneSearch?
    • Your OneSearch log in is your UMBC username and password. Logging in is required for managing your account or placing requests. If you want to save searches, create search notifications, or favorite items, you will need to log in. 
  • If I have links to the old catalog in my syllabus or on Blackboard, will I need to update those? 
  • Can I request a librarian come to my class to help my students use the new OneSearch?
    • Absolutely! Our librarians are available to provide instruction to students and faculty who want to learn more about the new system. Complete this request form and one of our librarians will be in touch with you.
