Sickies Making Films [2017] : UMBC Library Media Stacks UMDVD 10486

“Sickies Making Films” uses the nation’s longest running surviving censor board, the Maryland State Board of Censors (1916-1981) as a cinematic window into the tangled history of American movie censorship. Mary Avara became the last censor standing--and her very public clashes with fellow Marylander John Waters entered the national spotlight. Using film clips, archival footage, and interviews this riveting documentary explores the politics, prejudices, and personalities that controlled the moving images Americans consumed for decades.
