Graduate Student Resources

Welcome!

Welcome to the Graduate Student Resources Guide. This guide provides resources to both the AOK Library and Gallery and UMBC campus services related to graduate student research, writing, publication, and more. Find out how to contact a research librarian, and scroll below to receive a basic overview and orientation to graduate services. Click on the tabs in the left navigation bar to see specific sections related to library resources, research, writing & publication, and other graduate services.

Library Virtual Chat

Have a question? You can use our virtual Ask a Librarian chat service, which is available live on the Library homepage Monday through Friday 10am-5pm. Research librarians answer the chat and help with a wide range of questions, such as where to locate items in the Library, how to use Interlibrary loan, how to search the databases, and also assist with more in depth questions such as help designing a research strategy for your comprehensive exams or advancing thesis or dissertation research. Ask away!

In person research help

You can also receive in person help by stopping at the Library Check Out desk on the first floor to chat with a library employee any time the building is open. There is more in depth research help available in person during the Library Research On Call hours, Mon-Fri from 10am-5pm fall and spring semester, and Mon-Fri 10am-3pm summer and winter term.

Make a Research Appointment

You can make a research appointment with a librarian who has experience with your subject area. Research appointments last generally from 30 minutes to 60 minutes and are opportunities to discuss your research question more in depth and work together on search strategies to locate materials on your topic within our library, online via databases, or more broadly using Interlibrary Loan and other research tools. You can schedule a research appointment with your subject librarian using the form linked below or emailing them directly. Contact information and a list of subjects and their librarians is also via the link below.
