Basics: Articles are individual works published in Periodicals [ also called serials, which include: journals, magazines, transactions, conference proceedings, etc.]. Databases make searching possible by indexing articles using standard fields: author(s), article title, publication, date of publication, page numbers. This is the same information you include in a standard citation in a bibliography / works cited / footnote.
If you are looking for academic / professional articles with a strictly IS/IT perspective use IEEE XpLore or the ACM Digital Library. IEEE and ACM are professional organizations that publish a huge variety of periodicals from the most technical/academic publications to popular and trade magazines. YOU CAN SEARCH BY KEYWORD, THEN NARROW RESULTS BY AUTHOR, PUBLICATION, SUBJECT HEADINGS, OR DATE.
CASC [COMPUTER AND APPLIED SCIENCE COMPLETE] is a database of IS/IT/CS related articles from many different publishers -including IEEE and ACM- that can provide a wider perspective on topics than either of the others does alone.
IS / IT articles from a business perspective can be found in Business Source Complete. Additional disciplinary and Multidisciplinary databases can be found on the full IS/CS Subject Guide.
Citation Searching is done using known articles to find additional, related articles that cite them. The primary database for this is Web of Science.
